What does everyone think of autotune? Have you been autotuned before?
I think it's becoming too comon place. People aren't even trying to hide it anymore. So much of what's popular encorporates such blatent auto-tune that I find myself wondering about the artist's talents. I realize however that much of that music is Hip-hop, rap and techno based, which is music I'm not a fan of. Perhaps I have a bias, but I find myself stearing clear of that sort of thing when at all possible.
I'm not against it for the ocasional correction of pitch, but it seems many now adays are using it as a crutch to hide their inability to sing on key, and that's hard to swallow. Although, it could be argued that mainstream music today is more about selling points than about actual tallent. If it sounds good on people's iPods, who cares where it came from, right?
O, and to answer your question, yes, I autotuned myself once, although it was more just to see what I would sound like. It was interesting, to say the least.
The only time you would ever hear me Autotune myself would be if I was making fun of artists who use it on every damn sylable. That's one of the reasons why I, too, stear clear of Hip Hop and what they laughingly call R&B these days.
How accessible is this stupid freakin' crap they call goddarn auto freakin' tune? I thought about usin' it just to see what it is like. Also, can I use my computer's microphone? Any music that uses autoTune in everyfreakin' syllobol is freakin CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP!
Well I'm not sure how accessible it would be.
I like a few songs that use AutoTune, but in general I'm not a fan at all. I do like a lot of RandB, rap, and techno, but not all of it uses AutoTune. I do agree that most songs which use AutoTune throughout are complete garbage.
But it seems that to get radio play in those genres you almost have to use Autotune these days.
Even country music uses suddle autotune theese days, ha, bet ya didn't know that. I know a way that autotune is very accessible. It is audacity with the vst plugins, GVST: Gsnap, and G2kg: Karovee. When did you autotune yourself? Has anyone ever heard of the tpain toy microphone that they make for kids now?
I wonder if that microphone was what the girls on Hot in Cleveland got a hold of in the Battle of the Bands episode.
Autotune can be perfectly accessible depending on the program, and the plugin.
By the way, yes, I was pretty sure I heard some suttle autotune in country music. it doesn't sound totally computerized, but the pitches are very exact.
Main streem music has overused the autotune. I'm sick to death of it. But that's just me.
it isn't just you. Unfortunately it is what's "popular". Oh the shame, the shame. The worst part is I'm really starting to understand older people who listened to my generation's music and saying "what's thaaaat crap?"
I dislike AutoTune, although I like to see people do weird things with it like run crying babies or sirens through it. Still sounds like a cross between a kazoo and somebody running their mouth up and down the holes in a harmonica.
Also, I think every generation makes music that is very popular to members of that generation but is puzzling or just found horrible by older folks. But then again, even as a teen or twenty-something, although I was aware of what everyone else was into none of it did a thing for me and I preferred to just spin my radio dial and find stuff that interested me, even if it might have been over a decade old or only playable on college stations.
I agree about having fun with AutoTune. But using it for actual music is just wrong as far as I'm concerned, well unless it's parody music of course.
I feel like my dad, when I hear the radio stations playing the top 40 crap, and going "What the hell is this crap?" And people think I'm crazy for not liking this crap. lol
Rucka Rucka Ali uses the auto tune the best right now.
I agree about the top forty crap. I was never really a Hip Hop fan even before the genre became what it is today but it seems these days everything in taht genre has te same boring subject matter and the same boring beat, not to mention AutoTUne to make it sound even more fake. THen you have someone like WIlls Smith, particularly in his DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince days. Nightmare on My Street was one of my favorite songs of is from that period.
Any idea where you can find the autotune plugins for audacity? I'm curious to get my paws on them and fiddle with them.
I don't know about that. It is fun to joke around with, but not for serious music.
Please people, lil waine is in no way real hip hop. That is pop. MTV got pop guys sayin they are rappers. It is for the kids.
I agree. And Kesha's no different.
I know Lil Wayne has a couple of Auto-Tuned pop songs, but I think he's actually a good rapper, for the most part. Check out "Steady Mobbin'" and "6 Foot 7 Foot" if you haven't heard them already. I do agree about Ke$ha, though; she has no business singing or attempting to rap.
The closest I ever came to liking rap was back in the days of DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince, which for those who don't know was back in the 80's. And even then there were only a few songs I liked. But they didn't all feature Autotune and the same boring beats.
Auto tune covers up a lack of talent and creativity. Factual.
Ah yes Bryan the 80's. Where rappers used REAL bands and not digitized beats. Where dropping the bass meant you closed the tone controls on an ACTUAL bass.
Back on topic.
Auto tune sucks. I refuse to listen to anyone who uses it. I have gone so far as to say it's not real music. People who use it for their voices have no talent (lil Wayne included) and they should NOT be in the music industry.
Lil Waine is the worst example of main streem rap not being real rap.
Even though I never really listened to rap I still respect guys like L.L. Cool J and Ice T.
I agree. People who feel they MUST use AutoTune should not be in the music industry. Ke#ha included. Makes you wonder if she can actually sing. I would say not.
She can not sing for shit. Lil Waine sounds like an old lady gagging on a cock. LOL If I had to guess.
Slick Rick is a rapper. Nas, Biggie, Tech N09ne, these are rappers.
Tech N9ne is what I meant. Excuse me.
I wouldn't know. I don't generally pay attention to stuff like that.
It was a joke... Humor is always lost on the zone.
